My textured Mohawk hairstyle is one of my most requested looks for this year. Which is why I decided to make it into my next step-by-step tutorial.
I hope you enjoy the tutorial and would love to see photos of the textured Mohawk’s you create after learning the hairstyle!

1a & 1b. Start from the back of the hair and use the micro crimp iron from Sam Villa. Start the crimps from the scalp to the ends of the hair.
2a, 2b & 2c. After you are done crimping the entire head, section off the hair from the top of the crown. Pull the top section forward so it is not in your way. Begin by knot-braiding in the middle/back of the models head pinning as you go creating a Mohawk shape. Leave the side sections alone for now.
3a, 3b, 3c, 3d & 3e. Continue this technique until all the hair in the middle back section has been knot braided and pinned into place.
4a, 4b, 4c, 4d & 4e. For the last bit of hair at the base of the neck, secure it into a ponytail using elastic hair ties to give the base a tight, clean finish. Then begin the knot-braiding technique once more and pin it into place.
5a, 5b, 5c & 5d. Once you've secured the foundation of the mohawk hairstyle take the front section and split it into two sections horizontally. The first section of hair will be knot braided like the back of the hair.
6a, 6b, 6c & 6d. For the final front portion of the hair create a basic braid. You will want to make sure the front of the braid is smooth and proportioned with the clients face shape. Then very carefully mix the end of the braid into the previous knot-braids, you want to make sure when you pin the braid that you do not pull it too tight. The braid needs to be the same height as your knot braids.
7a, 7b, 7c & 7d. For the sides of the hairstyle begin taking small sections of the hair and weaving them in a criss-cross pattern around the base of the mohawk hairstyle. Continue this until you only have a small section of hair at the front sides of the mohawk.
8a, 8b & 8c. Take the last front side section of hair and create a basic braid it. Secure the end of the braid with an elastic and the pin it around the base of the mohawk. Repeat this for the other side.
Finish off the look with hairspray and viola! You have just made a showstopping mohawk hairstyle.
For my mohawk hairstyle I added strips of silver studs to accessorize the look. This is optional, and can be changed according to what your client likes.
